1. The usual adult dose is 0.25-0.5g (calculated as neomycin) orally once a day, 1-2g daily. For adjunctive treatment of hepatic encephalopathy, 0.5-1.0g is administered every 6 hours for 5-6 days. For colonic surgery preparation, 0.5g is administered every hour for 4 hours, followed by 0.5g every 4 hours for 24 hours.

2. The usual pediatric dose is 25-50mg/kg daily, divided into 4 doses. Follow-up examinations: Audiogram, renal function test, and examinations before and during treatment are required for patients with pre-existing renal impairment, 8th cranial nerve damage, or long-term treatment. Patients with no improvement after several days of treatment should undergo further examinations.

① Neomycin can be taken on an empty stomach or after a meal;

② Patients with impaired renal function or 8th cranial nerve function require a reduced dose;

③ For patients in hepatic coma who cannot take neomycin orally, sterile neomycin powder can be prepared into a 1% solution for retention enema;

④ Neomycin sulfate is too toxic to be administered by injection. Large amounts should not be administered intracavitary, as absorption can cause ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity, and respiratory depression.
