1. Concomitant systemic administration of other aminoglycosides or capreomycin may increase ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity, and neuromuscular blockade; hearing loss may occur, and may even progress to deafness after discontinuation of the drug, often resulting in permanent symptoms.
2. Concomitant use with neuromuscular blockers may increase neuromuscular blockade, leading to skeletal muscle weakness and respiratory depression or paralysis (apnea).
3. Concomitant systemic administration with cisplatin, ethacrynic acid injection, furosemide injection, or vancomycin may cause hearing loss, which may progress to deafness after discontinuation of the drug, often resulting in permanent symptoms.
4. Long-term concomitant use of oral contraceptives (containing estrogen) and oral neomycin may result in contraceptive failure and increase the incidence of bleeding.
5. Oral neomycin may interfere with the absorption of digitalis glycosides, vitamin A, or vitamin B12, reducing their efficacy; therefore, patients should be closely monitored for changes in their response to digitalis. Patients taking oral neomycin, especially when taking it in combination with colchicine and vitamin A, may have increased vitamin B12 requirements.
6. Systemic administration with polymyxins may increase nephrotoxicity and neuromuscular blocking effects.
Preparation is based on neomycin. Neomycin sulfate tablets (1) 0.1g (100,000 units); (2) 0.25g (250,000 units) orally, 1g at a time, 3-4 times a day. Children, 5-10mg/kg at a time, 4 times a day.
